Patience on a monument

February 5, 2016

“…she pined in thought,
And with a green and yellow melancholy
She sat like patience on a monument,
Smiling at grief. Was not this love indeed?”

Shakespeare, Twelfth Night, Act II Scene 4

For some reason when I was getting ready to post this picture of Cookie, I thought of that phrase from Twelfth Night, “patience on a monument.”  Every week Cookie comes out of her cage and sits on the box, and every time we walk by her we pet her.  We were in the store last Sunday and she was sitting in her cage in just this same pose.  I wouldn’t say that she’s necessarily pining, but she is certainly patient!  She has lived in cages since the spring and it would be so nice if she could have a home!
