Sunny aka Barney

February 19, 2014

This very handsome but shy fellow was new to PetSmart on Friday, and hadn’t quite decided he was safe.  His cage tag said Sunny, but the neuter record in his folder said his name at the time had been Barney.

He had eyes almost as gold as his fur.  He wanted to stay huddled in his cubby.

But there was one thing he really loved.

Attention.  While I was petting him, a woman came up to the window with her family, and I could tell by the smile on her face that she was smitten.  She said that her family had lost their cat to complications of diabetes last year, and had then taken in a “stray” who turned out to belong to a neighbor and thus had to be returned.  Both were affectionate orange tabbies.  So after only a little more than 24 hours at PetSmart, we tucked this guy into a new blue carrier, where he sat calmly waiting to see what would happen next, and sent him home with his new mom and dad and two little human sisters.  The older one is accustomed to carrying cats around like babies, so I suggested that if he seemed nervous he could have his own room over night (one new thing at a time).  He seemed like he had a lovely disposition and we hope he’ll be very happy.
